Jac Schaeffer has revealed an unused scene from the final battle of
Agatha All Along, and I"m so glad this dark moment wasn"t included in the MCU Phase 5 series. Agatha All Along quickly became one of my favorite Marvel Studios projects following its release over 2024"s Halloween period. I am obsessed with Kathryn Hahn"s Agatha Harkness, and found the developments of Billy Maximoff and Death incredibly exciting. This all came to a head in an epic final battle in Agatha All Along episode 8, but this was almost even more haunting.
Agatha All Along episode 8, "Follow Me My Friend/To Glory at the End," saw Agatha, Billy and Jennifer Kale complete the final trial on the Witches" Road, with each getting the thing they traveled to the Road for. After escaping, Agatha found herself back in Westview where she faced Aubrey Plaza"s charismatic Death in a final showdown. I loved that this final battle was stripped back and intimate, but
I"m glad that some of the original ideas thrown around by Agatha All Along"s creators weren"t included during this fight.
Agatha All Along Almost Brought Back WandaVision’s Sparky The Dog Sparky Was First Seen In WandaVision Episode 5
Back in November 2024, in the wake of the finale of Agatha All Along, series creator Jac Schaeffer spoke to Jeff Goldsmith of Backstory Magazine and revealed more about the creative process for the MCU Phase 5 series. One comment stood out to me, as Schaeffer, while discussing how grueling it was to get the final fight right, noted that episode 8"s writer, Peter Cameron, had an unusual original idea for the battle. Shockingly, this
would have seen the skeleton of WandaVision"s Sparky climb out of the ground to join the fight.
The battle in [Episode 8] was excruciating. Poor Peter Cameron delivered so many versions of that that I didn’t want to do because I don’t really like the big battles, and he came up with really incredible ideas, like Sparky’s skeleton coming up from the backyard and fighting everybody. It was really, really great. But he always got the kiss right, and he always got Agatha’s death right, and that was our North Star, and so we eventually found it.
Sparky first appeared as a stray dog found by the five-year-old Billy and Tommy Maximoff in WandaVision episode 5, "On a Very Special Episode..." The twins age-up to ten-years-old so that Wanda Maximoff and Vision will let them keep the dog, but
Sparky ultimately meets his demise at the hands of an Agatha Harkness-controlled Ralph Bohner only moments after, though we were told Sparky died from eating Agnes" poisonous azalea leaves. I would have been shocked to have seen Sparky in Agatha All Along"s final battle, and I"m glad he didn"t appear.
How Bringing Back Sparky Would Have Changed Agatha All Along's Finale Sparky Would Have Made Agatha All Along's Final Battle Very Weird Close Above, I noted that I loved the fact that Agatha All Along"s final battle felt intimate, like a dance between Agatha Harkness and Death, with Billy Maximoff getting the chance to show off his impressive abilities, too. I appreciated the change of pace from Marvel Studios" typical big-CGI fights.
Throwing the skeleton of Sparky the dog into the mix would have completely changed the impact of this fight, even though we would have seen some pay-off from Ralph Bohner"s reveal in Agatha All Along episode 6 that it was actually him who"d killed the dog.
We didn"t see what happened to Sparky following his death in WandaVision, so bringing back his skeletal form in Agatha All Along would have confirmed that the dog was buried. It would have taken some explaining to answer why Sparky was buried in Agatha Harkness" back garden and not that of the Maximoffs, but this would have underlined Wanda Maximoff"s lesson for her sons in WandaVision. Sometimes, dead means dead. Burying Sparky in an actual ceremony would have strengthened this idea, but this would have contradicted both the Scarlet Witch and Wiccan"s powers.
Why It’s Best Sparky Didn’t Appear In Agatha All Along’s Final Battle Agatha All Along's Final Fight Was Perfect
I"m so glad that Agatha All Along"s creators decided not to include Sparky in the series" final battle in episode 8.
Seeing the skeletal form of a tiny dog running around attacking Agatha Harkness, Billy Maximoff and Death would have been absolutely ridiculous, and too outlandish even for the campy and extravagant Phase 5 series. Agatha All Along"s final battle was perfect just the way it was, and Jac Schaeffer even stressed the fact that Peter Cameron got Agatha Harkness and Death"s kiss and the former"s subsequent demise spot-on, and I wholeheartedly agree.
Related Agatha All Along's Ending Sets Up A New, Worse Witch Problem For The MCU's Future According To Marvel Theory According to a massive new MCU theory, Agatha All Along might just be the beginning for one powerful witch and the fabled Witches" Road itself.
Posts 5 Even though he didn"t appear in Agatha All Along, it"s possible we might still see Sparky the dog return to the MCU in the future. Marvel Studios" upcoming Vision series will act as WandaVision"s second spinoff, and
it has been theorized to see a confused White Vision rebuild his perfect family, perhaps including a synthezoid version of Sparky. I"d love to see this development for the adorable Maximoff pet, but I"d be very happy never to see Sparky"s skeleton clambering from the ground, so Jac Schaeffer and Peter Cameron made the right choice by omitting him from
Agatha All Along.
